Kevin Whitley, M.Ed.

Theatre Arts/Fine Arts Department Chair

Mr. Whitley has been teaching at FCHS for 27 years. He has been involved in close to 100 performances as a performer, scenic designer, director, or asst. director from educational theatre to community/regional theatre. He is also a working artist focusing on oil, and mixed media in a variety of experimental subjects and approaches.

2002: Atlanta College of Art, College Board Advanced Placement Art History Certification

1996: Kennesaw State University, Post graduate work in Art Education and Art History

1995: College Board Advanced Placement Studio Art Certification.  Taft School, Watertown, Connecticut.

1988-89:  Georgia Southwestern State University Post-Graduate Certification K-12 in Visual Arts. 

1984:  B.A. in Art, Graphic Design and Illustration and a minor in French and Art History.  Georgia Southwestern State University

1982:  Eckerd College Study Center - London, England.  Studies include: art, architecture, and history.

Leadership Roles and Accomplishments

2008 NAEA National Art Honor Society Teacher of the Year

2008 GAEA National Art Honor Society Teacher of the Year

2005 Forsyth Central High School Teacher of the Year

2000 Georgia Art Education Association High School Teacher of the Year.

Recognized nationally and statewide for award-winning theatrical set design for educational and community theatre.

Presenter on "Effective Fine Arts" at the 2006 High Schools That Work Nat'l Convention, Orlando Fla.

Guest presenter for seminars and workshops at the annual Georgia State Thespian Conference.  Workshops focus on set designing using principles of aesthetics and abstract concepts.

Featured in 1998 "Men of Forsyth."  This is an annual supplement to the local newspaper that spotlights individuals who have made a positive influence in the community.
